Overview:

Championship Manager: All-Stars is an interactive football management simulation game. This game offers users the opportunity to test their analytical and tactical abilities by managing a soccer team towards league domination, successful survival, and victorious tournaments.

Free-to-Play Online Experience:

Championship Manager: All-Stars, while not the direct sequel to Championship Manager 15, is a free-to-play, mostly online alternative. This online game allows you to compete against other football pundits from around the world, with the promise of Championship Manager 16 forthcoming from Square Enix.

Diverse Gameplay Modes:

This game comes loaded with four different modes. The All-Star mode, which is the standardised version, offers the experience of playing full seasons inclusive of league and cup competitions. The Survival mode provides a unique twist by allotting you three 'lives' and lets you witness how many games you can engage in without losing any of them - every loss costs a life. The added twist comes from having to choose players from a randomly presented selection. The objective here is to construct the most balanced capable team. The Tournament mode allows you to participate in various events with your All-Stars team. Aside from the All-Star mode, the rest of the modes involve playing online with various football managers globally. The World Tour mode, the last mode, lets you compete against the globe's most popular teams and is an offline game mode. The online modes offer a chat feature for interaction with other players.

The Game Mechanics:

The gameplay mechanics should be familiar to anyone who has had experience playing a soccer management simulation game. Championship Manager: All-Stars begins with a randomly generated team, with one 'star' player who becomes the foundation of building your team around. Basic tasks include team training, player acquisition and selling, deciding match techniques, etc. The in-depth features might not be as extensive as some other soccer management simulation games, but the available advanced tactics should prove satisfactory for most. A marketplace for trading players forms part of the game, along with the use of in-game currency and microtransactions to build your desired team.

However, the game could benefit from a more visual approach, as its match presentation relies on basic animations and text-based commentary. Although adequate, this feature doesn't excessively immerse the player in the game's feel.

Final Verdict:

Championship Manager: All-Stars provides a decent soccer management experience. However, its lacking visual appeal leaves it behind in the race against more visually engaging opponents such as FIFA Ultimate Team. For fans of the Championship Manager series by Square Enix, this title might feel like merely a steppingstone between Championship Manager 15 and the anticipated Championship Manager 16.
